About product

South Europe Dry Mud Powder Pigment from Lifecolor

A Lifecolor dry powder pigment in the shade of dried southern European mud, that is in a warmer and lighter position than the earths of central and eastern Europe. It is applied with a brush, dry, and is a classic material for vehicles from a Mediterranean and Balkan setting.

Restraint is a discipline in itself

With dry pigments mistakes are made almost exclusively in the direction of too much. Powder on a model lightens and dulls everything it settles on, and in small scales it does that job faster than you expect. The recommended method is therefore the opposite of what one expects: apply clearly less than you think should be enough, put the brush down and look at the model from a meter away. Only then start adding. A model whose weathering is legible from that distance is almost certainly overdone close up.

Taking away matters as much as putting on

Because unfixed pigment holds only mechanically, taking it away is a tool in its own right. With a stiffer dry brush you lift the powder off surfaces that should stay clean, with a cotton swab you polish the places the crew touches, and in the recesses you leave the deposit untouched. The smaller the scale, the more it pays to keep the pigment only in the recesses and on the lower areas and to leave the upper surfaces almost untouched, or the model will lose the color contrast you put into it beforehand.

Who it is for

  • modelers of vehicles from the Mediterranean and the Balkans
  • builders of smaller scales, where restraint is essential
  • everyone who wants to build weathering in a controlled way, in layers

A dry pigment is a loose powder. Do not work with it in a draft, do not inhale it, do not blow the excess away with your mouth and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

Less than it seems. Apply a small amount, step back a meter from the model and only then add more. Weathering legible from a greater distance tends to be overdone close up.

As long as the deposit is not fixed, a stiffer dry brush or a cotton swab is enough. Leave the recesses untouched, as that is where the deposit belongs.

Yes. The smaller the scale, the more restraint. In small scales keep the pigment mainly in the recesses and on the lower areas, so that the model does not lose its color contrast.
