A sheet of masking tape with finished hexagons three millimeters in size. The finest size in the whole range is used on small covers, in smaller scales and on surfaces where the pattern is meant to be sensed rather than pronounced. Cutting a regular hexagon this small freehand is practically impossible, and that is exactly why a precut sheet pays off most in this size of all.
Either you stick the hexagons themselves on and spray around them, so that the honeycomb stays in the underlying color, or you leave the surrounding frame on the model and the paint reaches only the pattern. By combining the two procedures a transition can also be made in which the honeycomb thins out toward the edge of a surface.
The set is aimed at modelers of smaller scales and at builders of robot figures who want a fine technical surface on small covers. For large surfaces reach for the coarser sizes in the same range, otherwise the pattern blurs into noise.
The tape is a masking aid, not a decal. Once the spraying is done and it has been taken off, it is thrown away.
