A package of two smooth polystyrene sheets one and two tenths of a millimeter thick and measuring nineteen by eleven centimeters. It is a basic building material: the plastic can be cut, sanded, bent once warmed and glued with ordinary cement for polystyrene, so parts that are in no kit can be made from it.
Part a sheet by scoring along a rule and snapping it at the score. Cutting right through in one pass means a blade that runs off and a warped part. It is glued with cement for polystyrene, which dissolves the plastic and welds the joint, so it holds better than super glue. Degrease the faces before gluing, as they tend to carry a greasy film from production. Level the edges after cutting with a file, otherwise the seam will stay visible even after varnishing.
A sheet a little over a millimeter thick is a good compromise: it can still be bent and yet it holds its shape on smaller parts.
