A photographic publication, volume 11 of the numbered Wingleader Photo Archive series from the British publisher Wingleader; the author is Jonathan Falconer. These are not the bomber versions: the Mk.IV and Mk.V are the glider-towing, airborne-forces and transport Stirlings. The bomber Mk.I and Mk.III have a separate volume 7 of the same series, so the distinguishing mark is the role of the aircraft.
When the Stirling had finished its service in the bomber role, it was given a second career. The Mk.IV lost its nose and dorsal turrets and was given an attachment for a tow cable and a paratroop exit in the rear; in that guise it towed gliders at the Normandy landings, at Arnhem and at the Rhine crossing, and dropped supplies to resistance groups. The Mk.V was an unarmed transport machine with cargo doors and carried dozens of troops. For a modeler the important thing is that both also differ in appearance from the bomber versions: the missing turrets change the outline of the fuselage, the towing equipment is added and the colors and markings change too.
For modelers who build the Stirling in transport or glider-towing guise and need evidence for the modifications to the fuselage and for the colors, and for anyone interested in airborne operations. It is a book, not a kit.
