ICM Soviet Trucks: an acrylic paint set for Soviet trucks

A set of water-thinnable acrylic paints from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM for Soviet trucks. The package holds six bottles with a volume of 12 ml. It is not a kit, but the paints that go with one.

Set contents

The set holds the shades Green 4BO, Neutral Grey, Gun Metal, Rubber Black and Clear Red, plus a gloss varnish. Green 4BO was the standard Soviet protective color for military equipment and forms the main opaque shade, the gray fills in the interior and the technical surfaces, Rubber Black covers the tires and Gun Metal the metal parts. Clear Red is a transparent shade, that is a paint with no covering power, meant for tinting clear parts such as tail lights. The gloss varnish prepares the surface under the decals. The paints dry flat, so a gloss or satin finish has to come from a varnish. Once dry they resist water and take oil paints, enamels, washes and thinners, so they hold up under weathering techniques.

Use and thinning

• With a brush the paint goes on straight from the bottle, with no thinning.
• For the airbrush the manufacturer recommends thinning with water or with an acrylic thinner by 40 to 60 percent.
• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use and mix the paint in a separate container.
• At temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius add a drying retarder.
• The shades in this line can be mixed with one another to reach a more precise tone.

The set suits a modeler of Soviet transport and supply vehicles, and anyone building a diorama with trucks. The base kit, glue and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
