DSPIAE SPP-02 polishing pads, medium grade

Twelve polishing pads in the medium version. They fit onto a carrier holder clamped into a modeling drill or a grinding pen. The medium grade is there to remove the marks left by the coarse one and to prepare the surface so that fine polishing has something to finish. Without it, coarse scratches stay in the surface and the finest pad merely brings them out.

When to reach for them

Immediately after the coarse grade with which you leveled the marks left by abrasive paper. Go over the face for as long as it takes for the scratches from the previous step to disappear under a raking side light, and only then carry on with the finer one.

How to work with them

• Keep the speed low; heat from fast polishing softens the plastic and the surface ripples.
• Do not press; the pad should work under the weight of the tool alone.
• Clean the part between grades, as a grain from the coarser pad will make a scratch.
• Rinse a clogged pad with clean water and let it dry.
• Work carefully on edges; a flexible pad passes over them and rounds them off easily.

Who they are for

The refill is for those who already use the pads in this range and have used up the medium grade. It comes into play above all on gloss finishes, chrome-plated parts and clear sections that had to be sanded.

Store the pads separately according to grade or mark them. Once they have been used they are hard to tell apart by eye, and a mixed-up grade means going a step backward. Do not breathe in the dust from polishing; work with extraction or at least with a respirator.
