A monograph on the British twin-engine Wellington bomber, volume number 10 of the British Warpaint series, by Alan W Hall. It is a printed publication about the aircraft, not a kit and not an accessory for a build. The series is set up so that one volume covers one type from the prototype to the last version — through archive photographs, color profiles and scale drawings.
The Wellington stands or falls by its structure: Barnes Wallis gave it a geodetic framework of duralumin sections covered with fabric, so the aircraft took hits that would have broken another airframe apart — photographs of Wellingtons with large holes in the side and the machine brought home are among the best known pictures of the war. In the early years it carried the main weight of RAF night bombing before the four-engined types took over, and then it found work with Coastal Command hunting submarines. The power changed with the version: Bristol Pegasus radials, Rolls-Royce Merlin V12s and the more powerful Bristol Hercules. Crews called it the Wimpy.
Above all for modelers who are building a model of this type and are looking for reference on the colors, the markings and the details of a particular machine. Then for aviation historians and collectors of monographs, who will find the series a quick and clear reference handbook to a single type. The text is in English, so a basic command of the language is assumed.
