A publication, not a kit. Volume No. 70 of the Warpaint series, by Charles Stafrace, follows the Corsair from the first prototypes to its withdrawal, with the focus on the versions, the operators and the markings.
The Vought F4U Corsair was an American carrier fighter with a distinctive cranked inverted gull wing and a powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine. The crank in the wing allowed a short landing gear leg under a large propeller disc. It was turned down for carrier operations at first and its service began from land bases with the Marine Corps; the Fleet Air Arm got it onto decks earlier. It was still in service in Korea and it was built until 1953.
For modelers of carrier fighters who are working out the differences between the F4U, FG and F3A lines and between the American and the British versions, and for collectors of literature on naval aviation. As a reference it serves when choosing camouflage and markings and when checking the details that differ between the individual versions. It can be read on its own, without previous knowledge of the subject, and it works as a general survey of the type as well.
