PBY-5 Catalina Black Cat, RAAF version 1:144 is a decal set for rendering a night patrol Catalina of the Royal Australian Air Force. An accessory to a plastic kit, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal set from the maker AML intended for rendering the Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina flying boat in the Black Cat version of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in 1:144 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory with decals (and any small parts) for a plastic model of the matching scale, which is not in the package.
The Catalina was a twin-engine flying boat with long range, deployed for patrol, rescue and action against submarines and shipping. The nickname Black Cat belonged to the machines in a matte black finish, which attacked Japanese supply convoys in the Pacific alone at night. RAAF crews operated in the same role.
Give the model a smooth gloss clear coat before applying the decals, so as to prevent silvering under the decal. Transfer the decals one at a time, settle them into the surface detail with a softener and, once dry, overcoat them with a matte or satin clear coat to match the character of the night finish. Follow the schemes supplied by the manufacturer.
This is an accessory to a model; the aircraft kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
