This set in 1:72 scale from Takom contains a complete American heavy tank transport combination: the M911 C-HET tractor, the four-axle M747 heavy semi-trailer (lowboy) and an M60A1 main battle tank fitted with explosive reactive armor (ERA). It is a limited edition, and according to the manufacturer the box also includes photo-etched parts for the fine details. You can therefore build the whole transport rig, or display the tank on its own.
The M911 C-HET is an American heavy tractor (Heavy Equipment Transporter) adopted by the US Army from the second half of the 1970s as a more powerful and more economical successor to the older transporter. Together with the M747 semi-trailer it handled loads in the order of tens of tons and was intended to carry main battle tanks of the M60 series; during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm this equipment also carried M1 Abrams tanks. Loaded on the trailer, the M60A1 with its explosive reactive armor plates represents the American main battle tank as it looked in the 1980s, when ERA was fitted to improve protection against shaped-charge rounds.
On both the tractor and the tank, finish the suspension and the lower areas before you close up the bodies and the frame of the lowboy. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement and use cyanoacrylate on the photo-etched parts. After spraying a primer coat, paint with an airbrush; unifying washes and pigments will help create a realistic weathered look with mud and dust effects on the wheels, the chassis and the tracks. The chain tie-downs and the trailer deck are rewarding places to bring out bare-metal wear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
