Undercarriage legs for the P-51D Mustang 1:72 (Eduard, 3D print)

This is an add-on set, not an aircraft model. The package holds 3D-printed main landing gear legs for the P-51D Mustang kit in 1:72 scale from Arma Hobby. The parts are printed directly, with no mold, so they carry crisper detail of the hydraulic lines, the scissor links and the tie straps than injected plastic can give. The material is at the same time stiffer than ordinary modeling polystyrene, which helps on an aircraft whose thin legs carry the whole weight of the finished model.

Use and fitting

• The set is meant for more experienced modelers, as the work is with 3D print (resin), not with plastic.
• Wash the print resin residue off the parts before building and let them dry thoroughly.
• Cut the print blocks and supports off with a saw or a knife, never snap them off.
• Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate); ordinary plastic cement does not hold here.
• Sand wet and with respiratory protection.
• Apply a primer before painting, then the silver or metal color of the legs and oil washes into the recesses.

For modelers who build a Mustang with the landing gear down and want the most visible part of the underside of the aircraft to look faithful and to carry the finished model at the same time. It will also be appreciated by those whose plastic legs bend during the build or lose their detail after sanding.
