Gun sights for the P-51D Mustang 1:72 (Eduard, 3D printed)

This is an add-on set, not a model of the aircraft. It contains reflector gun sights made by direct 3D printing, intended for the P-51D Mustang kit in 1:72 scale from Arma Hobby. The gun sights of the P-51D differed during production and service, which is why sets like this usually offer several variants so that the modeler can pick the one matching a particular machine. In a scale this small the gun sight is one of the few details that are really visible under an open canopy — and 3D printing manages the thin frames and mounts that injection-molded plastic cannot give.

Use and fitting

• The set is intended for more experienced modelers — the parts are tiny and fragile and it means working with 3D print (resin).
• Wash the parts free of print resin residue and let them dry before gluing and painting.
• Cut the print supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw; do not break the parts off.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate (super glue), best in a small drop applied with a pin.
• Build the gun sight into the cockpit before closing the fuselage and fitting the canopy.
• The reflector glass can be suggested with a drop of clear glue or a transparent film; do any fine sanding with respiratory protection.
