This product is a detail accessory set from Reskit, not a standalone model of an aircraft. It contains precisely worked landing gear bays and the main as well as the nose landing gear with wheels, and it is intended to raise the fidelity of the F/A-18 Hornet kit in 1:48 scale from Hasegawa. The parts are made by a combination of resin casting and 3D printing, which allows fine details that injection-molded plastic captures with difficulty. The set covers the A, B, C and D variants.
The McDonnell Douglas (today Boeing) F/A-18 Hornet is an American carrier-borne multirole fighter and attack aircraft. It serves with the navy and the marine corps and, in export versions, with a number of other operators. On carrier aircraft the landing gear and its bays are among the most closely watched areas, because they carry the strengthened structure for landing on a carrier and the arrestor hook; rendering them faithfully markedly raises the realism of a finished model.
First wash the parts to remove mold release residue, carefully cut them off the casting blocks and supports and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) rather than with classic cement for plastic. Apply primer before painting; the bays and the gear legs are usually sprayed with an airbrush and completed with a wash and drybrushing to bring out the details.
