The subject is the crew of the DShKM heavy machine gun. This modernized version of the Soviet heavy machine gun of 12.7 mm caliber has appeared since the post-war years on the mounts of armored vehicles, on the beds of trucks, on vessels and on fixed pedestals, in armies all over the world. A figure at the weapon therefore fits a large share of post-war and contemporary equipment subjects.
The name gives a figure of a gunner and a DShKM machine gun in 1:72 scale. The parts were made by direct 3D printing in resin. In a small scale this technology can hold crisp edges, the folds of the clothing and the small parts of the weapon that would otherwise be lost.
The material is not polystyrene, so cement for plastic kits does not work on it. Use cyanoacrylate glue, and epoxy on larger contact areas. The printed parts are held on thin print supports: cut them off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder with fine abrasive paper. Then wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that no print resin residue stays on the surface, and let them dry. Apply the paint over a thin primer, which unifies the surface and brings out the raised detail.
The modeler who wants to give a vehicle or a scene a human scale and some action will appreciate it. A single figure at a weapon often turns a static model into a story.
The package contains the figure and the machine gun as given in the name of the set. Paints, glue and a base are not included, unless stated otherwise.
