This is a double-sided mask design supplemented with door-opening fillers, that is, inserts that close off the entry openings during spraying and prevent paint mist from getting into the cabin. Combining the two makes particular sense on an aircraft with large doors and a glazed cabin. The model, paints and glue are not included.
The Beaver is one of the most successful designs in Canadian aviation. It emerged shortly after the Second World War as a rugged short takeoff and landing aircraft, capable of operating on wheels, skis or floats. It was powered by a radial engine and became renowned for its reliability in remote areas, where it often served as the only transport link. The US Army introduced it under the designation L-20A, and after the unification of the designation system it was renamed U-6A; in this form it served, among other things, during the war in Vietnam.
The blocked-off door openings make working on the fuselage easier and keep the interior clean, so it can be finished off at the end. The Beaver's cockpit glazing is extensive and flat, so a slightly thinned paint and several light passes work well. On aircraft in civilian colors, there are usually large uniform areas where every imperfection shows, so it is worth sanding the surface thoroughly beforehand.
