About product

IJN destroyer Shiranui in 1:700 scale from Aoshima

This injection-molded plastic kit captures the Japanese destroyer Shiranui in 1:700 scale, from Aoshima's Waterline modeling line. The package holds the hull and superstructure parts along with finely detailed armament such as gun turrets, anti-aircraft weapons and boats.

The real subject

Shiranui was a Kagero-class destroyer brought into service in the late 1930s. These fast destroyers were among the backbone of the escort and strike formations of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The ship took part in a number of operations in the Pacific and was sunk in 1944.

Building and painting tips

Depending on the version, the hull is built either as a waterline model without the lower part or with the full hull on a stand. Finish the deck and the superstructure first and fit the small weapons and the masts only at the end. The appearance improves considerably if photo-etched railings and rigging are added, which are not included in the package. Paint the hull dark gray and bring out the details with a wash and dry-brushing.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Japanese warships in 1:700 scale
  • Anyone interested in the fast Kagero-class destroyers
  • Builders of dioramas and display case models
  • More experienced modelers used to fine parts

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

She was a Kagero-class destroyer, fast ships that formed the backbone of the escort and strike formations of the Imperial Japanese Navy.

A basic plastic kit does not usually hold photo-etched railings. We recommend buying them separately for a more realistic appearance.

The model is in 1:700 scale, the standard of the Waterline modeling line for warships.
