A plastic kit in 1:700 scale from the Japanese brand Aoshima, from the waterline line (a hull down to the waterline). The model captures the heavy cruiser Maya in the form she had after her rebuild into a heavily armed anti-aircraft cruiser. The parts breakdown is clear and at the same time faithful.
Maya was the third unit of the Takao class of heavy cruisers of the Imperial Japanese Navy. During the war she went through a fundamental rebuild in which one of the gun turrets and the hangar gave way to extensive anti-aircraft armament. The ship took part in the fighting in the Pacific.
A waterline model can be set on a base or into a water surface made of acrylic gel. The sheer number of small anti-aircraft weapons will stand out with a dark wash and light dry-brushing. Photo-etched railings and aerials will help with the fidelity. Glue the small barrels and guns with cyanoacrylate glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
