This item is a modeling accessory, not a kit. It is a set of masking templates from Eduard shaped to measure for the model of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9 in 1:48 scale from MiniArt. The masks are made of adhesive masking tape and die-cut into precise shapes, so all you have to do is peel them off and stick them on – no cutting with a scalpel, no crooked lines.

What the masks are for

The most demanding part of painting any aircraft model is the cockpit glazing. The canopy frames are narrow, rounded and irregular, and masking them with tape by hand is laborious and risky – one twitch and the paint creeps underneath. Pre-cut masks remove that problem: they fit the shape of the part from the particular kit exactly, hold reliably and come off cleanly after spraying. The result is sharp, even edges to the cockpit framing.

Use

• Degrease the part before masking and let it dry thoroughly.
• Peel the mask off with tweezers and press it onto the glass, pressing the edges down carefully with a toothpick.
• Apply the paint in thin coats – a heavy coat increases the risk of creep and of the paint tearing.
• Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set; once it has fully cured, the edge risks being torn away.
• Fill in the open areas beyond the reach of the masks with ordinary masking tape.
