About product

Metal 20.3 cm 3rd Year Type barrels 1:700 (turned set)

This is an additional set of turned metal gun barrels, not a model in its own right. The package holds precisely turned 20.3 cm (8 inch) barrels of the 3rd Year Type in 1:700 scale. They replace the plastic barrels and give the main battery turrets a sharp, straight and symmetrical silhouette.

The real subject

The 20.3 cm 3rd Year Type gun was the standard main armament of Japanese heavy cruisers of the Second World War period, that is, of vessels of classes such as Myoko, Takao, Mogami after rearming, and Tone. The eight-inch caliber was characteristic of these fast and heavily armed vessels.

Usage tips

Trim the metal barrels to length, remove the burrs and glue them into the turrets with cyanoacrylate glue or a small amount of epoxy. Degrease the metal before painting, lay down a primer for metal and then the shade of the main battery. A metal barrel does not warp and stands handling better.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Japanese heavy cruisers in 1:700 scale
  • Modelers who dislike bent or coarse plastic barrels
  • Collectors who demand an accurate main battery silhouette
  • Modelers at every level, as fitting is easy

An additional set of metal barrels. The base ship kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
