Careful: this is NOT a kit. In the package you will find only a sheet of water-slide decals in 1:24 scale from the Japanese brand Studio27. The plastic model of the car is not included: you must own the Fujimi 1:24 kit or get it separately. The sheet is intended for that kit; the decals are drawn to the shapes of its body and may not fit a different one.

Why modelers buy a separate sheet

A kit box usually holds just one livery, at most two. But a racing car ran a whole season and looked different at every race: a different sponsor, a different race number, different graphics. A collector wants one particular car from one particular race, and that one simply is not in the box. A decal sheet fills exactly this gap. Studio27 is among the most respected Japanese makers of decals for racing cars: thin film, deep printing, precise print registration.

Nürburgring 2012 and the real subject

The Nordschleife is the most demanding circuit in the world: over twenty kilometers, seventy corners and more, blind crests and changing weather. The nickname the Green Hell is not marketing. The twenty-four-hour race at the Nürburgring is one of the legends of endurance racing. And the Mercedes SLS AMG has doors that open upward like gull wings, a tribute to the original 300 SL of the 1950s.

How to apply the decals so they look like paint

• Decals belong on gloss clear coat only. On a matte surface air stays under the film and the decal silvers: a silver rim forms around the artwork. It is the most common mistake and it ruins even a well built model.
• Decal softener is needed on the curved panels of the body. Without it a large sponsor marking will not settle, it lifts and makes folds. On racing cars softener is practically a necessity.
• Once everything is perfectly dry, go over the model with clear coat. The decal sinks into the surface and the edge can no longer be felt under a finger; polishing afterwards gives the body a wet shine.

Who the sheet is for

For modelers who already have the kit of the car and want to turn it into one particular machine from one particular race, not a generic car out of the box. Experience with painting and with decal work is assumed.

A decal sheet is not a kit. The model, paints, gloss clear coat, clear coat and decal softener are not included in the package.
