This is a decal sheet from the Japanese maker Studio27 in 1:24 scale. It is NOT a kit. There are no plastic parts in the package, just water-slide decals, that is the markings, sponsor logos and race number of one particular car. To be able to use them you must already have the model of the car: the Heller Citroën DS3 WRC kit. The sheet is made for precisely that one.
A kit offers one livery, at most two. But a rally car went out to every event with different markings, different sponsors and a different race number, and a collector wants a particular car from a particular rally, not just any DS3. This sheet covers the car from Rally Mexico 2013. Other DS3 WRC sheets from other events exist as well, so from one kit you can build a different car every time.
The World Rally Championship (WRC) has nothing in common with circuit racing. It is run on closed public roads: gravel, asphalt, snow, mud, dust. Next to the driver sits a co-driver who reads the pace notes out loud: the driver enters a corner he cannot yet see blind and trusts the voice beside him. It is run in any weather, by day and by night, all weekend long. Mexico adds gravel at high altitude to that: the special stages climb beyond two thousand meters above sea level, the air is thin and engines lose power there. Add the heat and the thick dust and you have one of the hardest events of the season.
Decals are applied to gloss clear coat. On a matte surface air is caught under the film of the decal and the edges start to silver, which is the most common mistake and cannot be repaired. On curved areas (fenders, roof, spoiler) use decal softener, so that the marking is drawn into the shape. Then comes clear coat over the decals, and only then weathering. The order is essential. And here lies the whole charm of rally models: a rally car is not meant to be clean and polished. Dust it, mud it, suggest stone chipping on the fenders. Weathering is desirable here, unlike on circuit cars, where nobody would want it. Dust pigments, mud effects and washes are the means for it.
The package contains decals only. The kit, paints, glue, clear coats and softener are not included.
