About product

Renault Alpine A110, Tour de Corse 1972, a 1:24 decal sheet (Studio27)

Let us make it clear at once: this product is not a kit, but a decal sheet from the brand Studio27, water-slide markings and a guide showing where to place them. The model of the car is not in the package and you have to have your own. The decals are made for the Renault Alpine A110 plastic model in 1:24 scale from the company Tamiya and they capture the car from the Corsican Tour de Corse 1972.

The real subject

The A110 Berlinette was built for exactly this. A fiberglass body on a backbone frame, the Renault engine behind the rear axle, a weight that a hatchback of today would manage in its hand luggage: a small, light, nervous and terribly fast car in the characteristic blue Alpine Blue paint. In 1973 it became the first car to master the newly created World Rally Championship, a historic milestone. And the Tour de Corse? The rally of ten thousand corners. Endless asphalt hairpins above the sea, a rock wall on one side and a drop on the other, hours and hours without a single straight. It is among the most demanding asphalt rallies in the world, punishing mistakes and destroying crews and brakes alike. It was there that the light, agile Alpine felt at home.

Application and building tips

An asphalt rally is a rally too: the car runs along closed public roads, the co-driver reads the pace notes and the car is never clean at the finish, so dust, rubber pick-up and smears of brake dust on the wheels are desirable, which means weathering products have their place here (only more discreetly than with a winter rally). First the technique, though: decals are applied to gloss clear coat, as on a matte finish a decal inevitably silvers, because air is caught under the film. So gloss clear coat as the base, decal softener on the curved sides and edges, thorough drying, a locking layer of clear coat and finally polishing. Weathering only at the very end.

Who the sheet is for

  • Owners of the A110 1:24 model from Tamiya who want a car from a particular race, not a generic version.
  • Fans of the classic rally era and of asphalt events.
  • Modelers who cannot bear to build the same livery from the box for the third time.
  • Alpine collectors, as other decal sheets for the A110 exist as well, from circuit to winter rally.

The package contains decals only. The model of the car, paints, glue, clear coats, softener and weathering products are not part of the delivery.

FAQ

No. It is a decal sheet only. You need the Renault Alpine A110 plastic model in 1:24 scale from the company Tamiya, which you buy separately.

It is nicknamed the rally of ten thousand corners. It is run on the Corsican asphalt hairpins above the sea, practically without straights, and it is among the most demanding asphalt rallies in the world.

Gloss clear coat only. On a matte surface the decal silvers, as air is trapped under the carrier film. On the curved sides of the Berlinette we also recommend decal softener, so that the film settles without folds.

Yes, but with restraint. A rally car is not clean at the finish, so dust, rubber pick-up and brake dust on the wheels come in handy. Apply the weathering only after the decals and after the covering clear coat has dried.
