Let us start with the essential: this is not a kit. You will not buy a body, an engine or wheels, you are buying a sheet of water-slide decals, that is the complete marking of one car, which is applied to a finished, sprayed model. Without the model of the car the sheet is of no use. The peculiarity of this piece: it is not intended for an ordinary plastic kit, but for the Studio27 kit of its own. Studio27 does not make decals only, as it also produces resin kits and conversion transkits, and this sheet is built exactly to their shapes. The compatibility is therefore different from sheets intended for Fujimi, so check that you have the matching basis. The point of the sheet is still the same: a box gives a modeler one or two color schemes, but a racing car went through a whole season and looked different in each race. A collector wants that one particular car from that one particular race.
Matmut is a French insurance company and the long-time main sponsor of the French stable IMSA Performance Matmut, founded by Raymond Narac. The team was among the most persistent Porsche customer stables at Le Mans and the year before, in 2013, it won the GTE Am class. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2014 it entered the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of the 997 generation among the amateur GT cars again, and in one of the crews, alongside Raymond Narac and Nicolas Armindo, sat David Hallyday, known in France rather as a musician. The white and blue marking with the large Matmut lettering is among the most recognizable French racing coats of that era.
The basic rule goes: a decal belongs on gloss clear coat. If you lay it on a matte surface, air stays under the film and a silvery rim appears around the artwork, as the decal silvers. It is the most common mistake with markings of all and the only repair is to spray over it and start again.
Large-area sponsor lettering on the sides and the hood will not settle over the curves by itself: use decal softener, which softens the film and lets it flow around the edges without folds. When the decal is dry comes clear coat, which sinks the edge of the film so that it cannot be felt when a fingernail runs over it, and finally polishing to a deep wet shine.
The package contains decals only. The model, paints, clear coat and softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
