A sheet of water-slide decals from the maker Studio27 in 1:24 scale. Be careful when ordering: this is not a kit, but only a sheet of markings with instructions for their placement. The model of the car has to be bought separately, as the sheet is prepared for the Fujimi McLaren MP4-12C GT3 kit.

Which car it is

This is car No. 15 of the Boutsen Ginion team from Monza 2014. The name of the team refers to Thierry Boutsen, the Belgian Formula 1 driver of the 1980s and 1990s who took several Grand Prix victories; after the end of his career his name appears with a racing team of his own. Monza is the temple of speed, the fastest circuit of the European calendar, with long straights running through a historic park, where GT3 cars run at the limit of the gearbox.

Do not confuse the sheets from Monza

Two MP4-12C sheets from Monza 2014 exist and they are easily confused. This one is Boutsen Ginion, car No. 15. The other is ART Grand Prix, car No. 98, a different team, a different livery, a different number. There are also Bhaitech No. 60 and 61 from Nogaro and Dörr Motorsport from the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring. That is exactly why such sheets are bought: a kit offers only one or two liveries, but a collector wants a particular car from a particular race.

How to apply the decals

• They are applied to gloss clear coat only. A matte base is the most common cause of a decal silvering once it has dried.
• The body of the MP4-12C is strongly shaped, so on the curved areas decal softener is indispensable with large sponsor markings.
• Once it is dry comes clear coat and polishing; the marking hides below the surface and the coat gains a wet shine.
• The sheet does not cover the whole body, so the color of the clear coat under it has to match. The shade is bought separately.
