A Studio27 decal sheet in 1:24 scale with the markings of the Lancia Super Delta (Delta HF Integrale) car in the Canonica sponsor colors from the Rallye Monte Carlo 1993. Behind the wheel sat Christophe Spiliotis with his co-driver Herve Thibaud. There are only markings in the package, no model of the car, no kit. Obtain the Lancia Super Delta kit in this scale separately; without it the sheet is of no use.
The Rallye Monte Carlo is the most famous rally in the world and at the same time the most insidious one. It is run in January, in the mountains above Monaco, and its reputation rests on a single thing: on one single stage dry asphalt, wet, ice and snow take turns. The choice of tires is therefore a lottery, as the team bets, the crew drives and a bad guess costs minutes. It is precisely here that the Lancia Delta HF Integrale, the most successful rally car in the history of the world championship, fits ideally: six consecutive manufacturers world titles, 1987 to 1992. The designation Super Delta is carried by that last, most developed evolution, with all-wheel drive, a turbocharged engine and an angular, aggressive look with flared fenders which turned a family hatchback into a wide competition beast. In 1993 the works team no longer started and the Deltas raced in the hands of private crews, exactly like this car. Rallies are run on closed public roads and everything hangs on the fact that the co-driver reads the pace notes: the driver goes blind into a corner he cannot see and trusts the voice beside him. In the snowy hairpins above Monaco that is cooperation on the edge.
The quality of the markings stands and falls with the base. A decal is applied to gloss clear coat, as a matte surface traps air under the film and the decal silvers; it is the most common mistake modelers meet on a Delta. Let the clear coat cure thoroughly and only then begin. The flared fenders of the Delta are strongly domed and the sponsor areas run across them, so have decal softener ready, which makes the film supple and lets it lie into the shape without bubbles. Once it has dried comes clear coat and only at the end weathering, in this order, never the other way round. At Monte Carlo an atypical patina suggests itself at that: salt and slush. White dried smears on the sills and behind the wheels, a wet shine on the hood, dusty gray fenders and a stuck-on pebble; such a model tells the story of a January night in the mountains, not of an exhibition hall.
