Let us make it clear right at the start: this is a sheet of water-slide decals, not a kit. The decals from the maker Studio27 are intended for the Fujimi McLaren MP4-12C GT3 kit in 1:24 scale and they turn it into the car of the Italian team Racing Studio from the Italian GT Championship 2015 season. You have to obtain the model of the car separately, it is not in the package.

The real subject: the Italian GT championship

The Italian GT Championship is the Italian championship for GT cars, a national championship where GT3 and GT Cup specials meet and which has a very strong name among European national series. In the 2015 season the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 of the Racing Studio team started here with race number 23. The McLaren MP4-12C itself is a historically important car: it was the first road McLaren after the legendary F1 and its GT3 version brought the brand back among the suppliers of customer racing specials after years. That is exactly why it appeared in so many series, and why so many decal sheets exist for it.

What you get on top of the box

The Fujimi kit contains only one or two liveries. Anyone who wants a particular car from a particular championship has to reach for a separate sheet, as they will not find it in the box. Several variants of the same car are covered: Hexis (FIA GT1 2012), Lapidus (Blancpain 2012) and Long Beach 2014. This sheet is the Italian one, the Racing Studio team, the year 2015, so check when ordering that you are really taking your own.

Tips so that the decals last and do not look stuck on

• Always work on gloss clear coat. A matte surface is a killer under a decal, as air under the film causes silvering and a silver rim forms around the artwork.
• For the rounded body of the MP4-12C reach for decal softener. Large sponsor markings will not yield to the shape without it and will make folds.
• Once it is dry, clear coat, as the edge of the decal disappears and will not be felt under a finger, and then polish it to a wet shine.
• The sheet does not cover the whole body, so the rest of the area is sprayed with paint. The shade under the decal has to match exactly, otherwise the transition will show.
