Careful, this is not a kit. It is a sheet of water-slide decals in 1:24 scale from Studio27, intended for the Porsche 962 C plastic kit from Hasegawa, which has to be on hand or bought separately, just like the paints and clear coats. The point of a separate sheet is simple: a kit offers one or two color schemes, but over a season the 962 C went through a whole palette of sponsors and race numbers. Anyone who wants a particular car from a particular race needs decals on top.
The Porsche 956 and its successor the 962 are the most successful endurance racing car in history. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans they won six runnings in a row, 1982 to 1987 (Porsche as a brand won seven times in a row from 1981), and on top of that they dominated Group C and the world championship. The blue, white and gold Rothmans livery on these cars became a visual icon of motorsport, as a Porsche 962 C in Rothmans colors is simply the picture everyone calls to mind at the words Group C. The year 1986 belonged to the works team: the 962 C won Le Mans and Derek Bell took the world drivers title, with Hans-Joachim Stuck, Jochen Mass and Bob Wollek racing alongside him. This sheet is the original, so anyone who also builds a Cayman in the Rothmans livery has a present-day tribute at home and, beside it, the pattern it came from.
Apply the decals only to gloss clear coat, as on a matte one air is held under the film and the decal silvers. With a full-body livery of the Rothmans type decal softener is a necessity: the body of the 962 C has pronounced curved areas, side tunnels and transitions into which the film will not draw itself. And watch the paint: the sheet usually does not cover the whole body, the rest of the area is sprayed, so the shade under the decal has to match, otherwise the boundary of the marking will show. At the end comes clear coat and polishing, which gives the surface the wet look of a real works prototype.
The package contains decals only. This is not a kit, as the model of the car, paints, glue and clear coats are not part of the delivery.
