This product is not a kit, but a sheet of water-slide decals in 1:24 scale from the Japanese Studio27. It serves to dress an ordinary model of the Nissan GT-R R35 in the livery of the Dubai police. The sheet is prepared for the Aoshima kit, and the model of the car, paints and clear coat are not in the package, as they are bought separately.
The GT-R of the R35 generation did not earn the nickname Godzilla by chance: a brutally fast turbocharged car with all-wheel drive and engineering packed with electronics, it was the Japanese answer to the European supercars, and it sold for far less than they did at that. That is exactly why its inclusion among the Dubai police cars is so piquant: the Dubai police has the most expensive fleet in the world and besides the GT-R a Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley, McLaren, Mercedes SLS AMG and Audi R8 really do serve in it. They are not photomontages, but genuine service vehicles. According to the official justification they are not meant for chases, as they play the role of a prestigious calling card and a tourist attraction, parking at well known places where people take photographs beside them. All of them wear the same livery: a white body with a green stripe and lettering in Arabic and English.
The basis of success happens before the decals: the body has to be white, because the sheet is designed for a white car and the green stripe and the lettering are applied to a white base. White is meanwhile one of the most demanding colors to spray, as without a primer and without several thin layers it will be uneven and show the plastic through. Next comes gloss clear coat: a decal applied to a matte one leaves air under itself and starts to silver, which is the most common mistake of all. On the curved sides of the GT-R and on the long stripes across the whole body decal softener is practically a necessity. At the end come clear coat and polishing, as service cars are polished to a high gloss and it is precisely the wet surface that turns a police model into a striking piece.
