This product is a decal sheet in 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Studio27. It holds the racing markings, race numbers and sponsor decals of the Subaru Legacy RS car from the Manx International Rally 1991 and it is intended as an accessory to the Hasegawa kit in 1:24 scale. It is not a kit: you will find no plastic parts, no wheels and no body in the package. You have to get the Subaru Legacy RS model itself separately.
The Legacy RS was the first truly serious rally weapon of Subaru, a flat-four boxer with a turbo and all-wheel drive, that is the technical pattern out of which the legendary Impreza grew a few years later. And above all: behind the wheel of the competition Legacy sat Colin McRae, the later world rally champion (1995) and the very first Briton to take the title, a synonym for rallying for a whole generation of fans. It was on the Legacy that McRae, with his co-driver Derek Ringer, built his name, and the Manx International Rally, a fast asphalt event on the Isle of Man, was among his favorite courses. The cars raced in the colors of the British team with the sponsor Rothmans at the time; the famous blue and yellow 555 combination came only in 1993, so it does not belong on a car from 1991.
Decals are applied exclusively to gloss clear coat, as on a matte surface air is caught under the film of the decal and the edges silver. That is the single most common mistake which spoils an otherwise successful model. So spray the body with paint, coat it with gloss clear coat and only then apply them. On curved areas (fenders, roof, spoiler) use decal softener, so that the film is drawn perfectly to the shape. Once it is dry comes clear coat over the decals, and only then weathering. The order is essential: anyone who dirties a model before fixing the decals will destroy them. An asphalt car from the Isle of Man is not meant to look as if it came from a car showroom, as fine dust from the verges, a touch of rubber on the fenders and a scuffed leading edge of the hood from flying stones make an enormous difference.
The product contains decals only. The model, paints, clear coats and softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
