A sheet of waterslide decals from the Japanese maker Studio27 in 1:20 scale, intended for the Porsche 935 kit from Tamiya. It holds the markings of the Kremer Racing car in the colors of the sponsor Vaillant with race number 70 from the 1977 DRM season. It is not a kit — there is no plastic and no model parts in the package, only the decal sheet. The basic model has to be obtained separately.
The Porsche 935 was the racing version of the 911 built for Group 5 — the category nicknamed the road monsters or Silhouette for the freedom of its rules. Essentially only the silhouette had to remain of the homologated production car; everything else — the huge widened fenders, the massive wings and the turbocharged engine — was practically free. The unmistakable identifying mark of the 935 is its flat, sloping nose without the usual headlights in the fenders: the lights moved down into the front bumper, so the front fenders could be straight, aerodynamically clean and drawn up above the line of the hood.
The DRM was the German touring and racing car championship, and from 1977 it became the home scene of Group 5. The Cologne team Kremer Racing was one of the strongest private stables, which went on modifying their customer Porsche 935 cars in their own way. The brand Vaillant — a maker of heating equipment — was a long-standing partner of the Kremers, and its green and white livery is among the most memorable coats the 935 ever wore. Just how strong the private teams of that time were, the Kremers showed in 1979, when with their own version of the 935 K3 they won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and beat the works machines — that, however, was a different car from the one on this sheet.
Decals are applied strictly onto a gloss clear coat. On a matte surface air is trapped under the carrier film and the decal begins to silver — that is the most common mistake, the one that ruins a model right at the end of the work. The order: gloss clear coat, decals, once dry a coat of clear varnish and polishing if you wish, and only then matting, if the scheme calls for it. The body of the 935 is all curves, so a decal softener pays off — it helps the film suck down to the shapes of the fenders and the spoilers without creases. Cut the decals out as close as possible with a sharp scalpel and a new blade, and check the position dry before soaking.
This is a separate decal sheet, it is NOT a kit. The model, the paints, the varnish and the softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
