This is neither a kit nor a detail set for a car. These are photo-etched metal name plates with the names of the Formula 1 drivers of the 1998 season, which are placed next to a finished model — on a display base, on a stand or straight into the cabinet. The designation Part 1 + 2 means that these are two sets in one package, that is more names for one purchase.

What it is for

A finished model needs a label. At an exhibition, in a competition and at home in the cabinet a model without a name plate is anonymous — the viewer does not know whose car it is or why it should interest them. A handwritten or printed slip of paper, meanwhile, looks makeshift and can let down even a superbly built model. A photo-etched metal plate comes across completely differently: it has sharp edges, a metallic sheen and the look of a museum exhibit. That is the whole difference.

It is also a way of finishing a model with minimal work. You have put dozens of hours into the model — and this is the last small thing that everybody nevertheless notices first.

The 1998 season
