The real subject

The Belgian circuit at Spa is one of the most demanding tracks there is: a steep climb, fast corners in the forest and a twenty-four-hour race run partly at night and often in the rain. The Audi R8 is well prepared for a track like that, a low coupe with a mid-mounted engine, in racing form with wide fenders, a flat floor and a large rear wing. The livery the set captures refers to the traditional colors of the Gulf brand, one of the best-known liveries in the history of endurance racing, and belongs to a car entered at Spa in 2015.

What kind of kit it is

A multimedia kit in 1:24 scale from Studio 27. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, the parts are made of several different materials, and a decal sheet of its own for that livery belongs to the set. The exact make-up of the contents, the number of parts and the sequence of assembly are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

Dry fit the parts first and only then reach for the glue. Cut the excess material and the traces of manufacture away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest down until it disappears. A livery with large areas of color calls for proper preparation of the surface: wash, degrease, spray a base coat and sand out every unevenness, because on a glossy body everything shows. Spray the boundaries between colors through a mask rather than assembling them from decals. Once the decals are on, clear coat the car and let it cure thoroughly.

For the more experienced builder who wants one particular endurance machine in the cabinet and is not afraid of painting to a high gloss.
