1:20 McLaren MP4/4 – Cockpit Set No.11 (for Tamiya Kits) is a Studio27 detail set for the cockpit of car number 11 – that is, Alain Prost's car from the 1988 season. It is not a kit – it is an addition to the Tamiya McLaren MP4/4 kit in 1:20 scale, which you already have to have.

This is neither a model nor a kit. It is a set of detail parts for the cockpit from Studio27 that supplements and replaces plastic parts in the basic Tamiya McLaren MP4/4 kit in 1:20 scale. You have to have that separately – without it you will not use the set.
In the 1988 season Alain Prost started with car number 11, while Ayrton Senna had car number 12. This set is therefore Alain Prost's cockpit – the cockpit of the driver who won seven races that year and finished a close second overall behind his teammate. If you are building Senna's car, you need the set for car No. 12 instead – Studio27 makes it separately as the Cockpit Set No.12. Please check the numbers; mixing them up means building a different driver.
The McLaren MP4/4 is among the most dominant cars Formula 1 has ever built: in the 1988 season it won fifteen races out of sixteen. Prost and Senna, two of the finest drivers of all time, drove in the same team and in the same car – and their rivalry became the most famous in the history of the sport. Prost was the fast, precise and tactical Professor; Senna the instinctive one. The car was powered by a turbocharged 1.5 liter Honda V6 and carried what is today an iconic red and white livery.
On a Formula 1 car there is nowhere to hide unfinished work – the car has no bodywork to cover mistakes, and you can see into the open cockpit. Molded seat belts are always only a suggested engraving in plastic, the buckles have no shape and the instruments have no depth. Photo-etched sheet, by contrast, is as thin as real sheet metal in scale – and it is precisely that difference that decides when a model is examined close up or on a display table.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not a complete model – the basic kit, the glue, the paints and the tools are not included in the package.
