1:24 Nissan R91CP – Upgrade Parts (for Hasegawa Kits) is a set of photo-etched metal parts from Studio27, intended to improve the Nissan R91CP kit from Hasegawa. It is not a kit – you have to own the basic model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a car model. It is a set of additional parts made of thin photo-etched metal that you fit into an already purchased Nissan R91CP kit in 1:24 scale from Hasegawa. The set is made by the Japanese company Studio27, which has long specialized in additions for racing cars.
Why modelers buy it: plastic cannot do a thin edge or a real mesh. The molded mesh in a kit is only a suggested engraving – a solid pancake. And on Group C prototypes that is a problem, because the car is studded with large intake openings and radiators and all of them are visible from the outside. A real photo-etched mesh is thin and you can see through it, so the difference is apparent immediately and from a meter away. The same holds for the seat belts in the cockpit: a combination of photo-etched buckles and webbing looks like a real belt, not like a decal.
Group C was the golden era of endurance racing in the eighties and the beginning of the nineties – closed prototypes of brutal power whose main limitation was fuel consumption. Drivers had to save fuel and go flat out at the same time. Japanese brands attacked the European stronghold of Porsche, Jaguar and Mercedes hard. The Nissan R91CP is the most successful of those attacks: in 1992 it won the 24 Hours of Daytona – as the very first Japanese car in the history of that race. Daytona is a twenty-four-hour race on an oval with an infield section, run in January and opening the season. A Japanese prototype that mastered an American classic — you will not get a stronger story under the hood of a model.
Let us be honest: photo-etched parts are work for a more experienced hand. The parts are bent (an etch bender helps a great deal), they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue rather than plastic cement, and in a number of places the original plastic detail has to be sanded away – that is an irreversible step, so measure twice. Prepare tweezers, a sharp knife and a magnifier. A Group C prototype should be glossy, so after the decals reckon with clear varnish and polishing compound. And for the wheels the obvious companion is a masking template for the tire lettering of Group C cars – black wheels otherwise bring the whole model down.
This is an additional set, not a kit. The basic model, the glue, the paints and the tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
