About product

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI 1:24 – decals for the inner lenses of the headlights and rear lights (Studio27, for Tamiya kits)

This sheet in 1:24 scale from the maker Studio27 is NOT a kit and not a model. It is a set of decals that are applied from the inside behind the transparent parts of the headlights and the rear lamps. It is intended for Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI kits from Tamiya, which you already have to own.

Why a modeler wants it

A real headlight is not an empty clear bubble. Inside it there is a reflector, a bulb, fluted glass and an indicator. A rear lamp has chambers and segments of different colors, whereas a model has only a red pancake. A kit puts nothing but clear plastic in the lights, so the car stares like a dead eye. And yet it holds that the lights are the first thing a person looks at on a car model – they are the face of the car. When they are dead, the whole model comes across as dead, even if the paint is perfect. A decal under the lens solves that difference quickly and it shows immediately. Unlike photo-etched sets, a less experienced modeler can manage the sheet too.

The real subject

The Lancer Evo VI is the peak of the era when Mitsubishi ruled world rallying. With the Evo VI, Tommi Mäkinen took his fourth world championship title in a row in 1999, and in honor of that success a special production version, the Tommi Mäkinen Edition, was created. The Evo VI is at the same time the period opponent of the Subaru Impreza WRC – the rivalry that defined the 1990s in rallying.

Usage tips

Apply the decals to the clear part from the inside and BEFORE you glue the headlight into the body – after that you will no longer reach the inside. The clear part must be perfectly clean and free of fingerprints; every piece of dirt is emphasized under the decal. Mind the glue: ordinary cement for plastic and cyanoacrylate glue both fog clear plastic, so special colorless glue for clear parts is what belongs on transparent pieces. Studio27 also makes similar inner-lens sheets for the Subaru Impreza WRC and the Lancer Evo V.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Lancer Evo VI kits who want realistic lights without photo-etched parts and tweezers
  • Less experienced modelers – the effect is large, the demands small
  • Fans of 1990s rallying and of the Mitsubishi versus Subaru duels
  • Anyone who builds a model for a cabinet and does not want the car to look dead

This is not a kit but an addition. The basic model, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
