A Studio27 upgrade set with photo-etched parts for a model of the Toyota 84C, prepared for Tamiya kits. It replaces suggested elements with metal parts.

The Toyota 84C is a Japanese racing prototype from the middle of the 1980s, that is from the time when endurance racing was ruled by the closed cars of Group C. They are machines built for continuous running over many hours, with a body shaped mainly according to airflow and with a crew squeezed into a narrow cabin. It is precisely on a car like this that a great deal of small fittings shows: the meshes of the intake openings, the loops and buckles of the covers, the quick fasteners and the trim.
Photo-etched parts, that is elements etched out of thin metal sheet. A kit manages the shape of the body, but the fine points mentioned above remain suggested on it only by an engraving or by thick plastic. Photo-etched sheet replaces them with parts that have real thickness and, on grilles, a real see-through as well. The set is prepared for Tamiya kits, so the dimensions of the parts match those; check the scale before buying against the kit you are building.
Separate the small parts on a hard surface with a sharp blade and hold them with tweezers while you do it, so that they do not fly off. Make the bends over a ruler or in an etch bender. Metal is smooth, so it has to be degreased before painting, otherwise the coat will not hold. Carefully cut away the suggested elements that are to be replaced by photo-etched parts and sand the area smooth. The manufacturer gives the order of fitting and the placement of the parts in the instructions for the set; go through them before you glue the body together.
For modelers who build Group C cars and want to take a model beyond the level of a boxed build, and for anyone who has no trouble with fine work using tweezers. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
