The US Marine Corps in 1:32 scale. A set of figures of the expeditionary force whose equipment and poses are recognizable at first glance.
Responsibility details are not available.
The United States Marine Corps has existed since 1775 and has held a special role throughout that time: it is the force that comes in from the sea and holds the beachhead until the rest of the army arrives. Everything else follows from that — lighter equipment, an emphasis on individual marksmanship, training in amphibious landings. Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Inchon, Hue and the desert campaigns at the end of the twentieth century are all stops on that unbroken line.
A modeler recognizes a Marine by a handful of details: a helmet cover with an irregular mottled pattern, infantry webbing with loops on the body, canvas gaiters or high boots and a rifle held at the shoulder even on the move. The figures tend to be caught moving forward, crouching or jumping down from the side of a vehicle, which matches the way the Corps fights.
The name of the set states neither the war nor the year, so the painting and the surrounding equipment decide where the figures belong. The same figures look like a squad from Southeast Asia in olive green and like a unit from the later desert operations in sand shades. For a builder of scenes that freedom is more of an advantage.
The 1:32 ratio is among the larger modeling sizes, where the buckles, the straps and the expression on a face are all visible. The figures therefore stand up to more careful painting and make sense on their own on a small plinth as well, not only in a file beside a vehicle. They are supplied unpainted.
