Soldiers of the South Vietnamese army in 1:32 scale. Figures of an allied ground force armed and equipped with American materiel.
Responsibility details are not available.
The armed forces of the Republic of Vietnam were established in 1955 and ceased to exist with the fall of Saigon at the end of April 1975. For twenty years they bore the main weight of the ground operations, even though the foreign press kept them in the shadow of their allies. They went through a transformation from units trained on the French model, through the American reorganization of the 1960s, to the last defensive battles, when they ran out of spare parts and fuel.
The equipment was American, but it was worn differently. A smaller build led to modified webbing, sleeves were rolled up and helmets were often replaced by a light cap with a peak or a soft hat. Elite battalions were issued camouflage clothing with a leaf pattern, while line units stayed with a single-color green. The result is a varied group in which two figures rarely resemble each other.
The South Vietnamese soldier appears in modeling far more rarely than his ally and his opponent, although he is the one most sorely missed in scenes from this war. The set therefore makes it possible to build a scene that is not a repetition of a motif seen a hundred times: the handover of a prisoner, the defense of a village or a patrol on the dike of a rice field.
The 1:32 ratio places the figures among the large ones, where even a small buckle stands out. The package does not state the number of pieces in its name and the castings are supplied without paint. Light vehicles, machine-gun nests of sandbags and the low vegetation of a lowland region all suit the scene.
