A replacement engine for a model of the Boeing F4B-3 and F4B-4 carrier biplane in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Boeing F4B belonged among the last fighter biplanes of the US Navy. The F4B-3 and F4B-4 versions of the early 1930s were given a metal semi-monocoque fuselage and were powered by the air-cooled nine-cylinder Pratt and Whitney R-1340 Wasp radial. On these machines the engine is readily open to view at the front and helps to determine the character of the whole nose, so the quality of the work on it shows more than on aircraft with a closed cowling.

The parts are not of polystyrene and classic glue for plastic does not hold on them; use cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest. Before painting, wash the part in lukewarm soapy water and degrease it. Paint the engine separately while it is still loose in the hand: the cylinders in a dark metallic shade, the edges of the cooling fins lightly brought out with a drybrush and the crankcase set apart in a lighter tone. More experienced builders add the ignition wiring from thin wire of their own making. Glue the engine into the model only as one of the last steps.
The set is for modelers who want the exposed engine of a biplane worked out in detail and are not afraid of a little sanding and dry fitting.
Paints, glue and modeling tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
