A set of two tunnel portals for a double-track line in N gauge, that is in 1:160 scale, from the German manufacturer HEKI. The portals are plastic and there are two in the package. It is not a kit of a tunnel but its face: it closes the opening in the terrain to the eye and hides the framework of the layout behind it. In the small N gauge this detail is noticed at once, because a line takes up little room in the landscape and every unfinished opening stands out.
Check the clearance dry, with the longest car that will travel the line. In N gauge the tolerances are small, so seat the portal by the track, not by the terrain. Glue it with cement for plastic or with PVA glue and shape the terrain to it last, so that no gap is left anywhere. Stone is brought to life by a dark wash run into the joints, a light drybrush on the edges and a faint soot smudge above the arch.
It suits builders of N gauge layouts with a double-track line. Because there are two pieces in the package, both ends of the tunnel have the same face and the scene looks finished from either side.
The portals are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
