This 200 ml package from the Heki company is intended for a forest floor, that is for the layer of fallen leaves that covers the ground under crowns. It is exactly this layer that tends to be overlooked on dioramas: a bare brown area under a tree gives away that this is a model, whereas an uneven deposit of leaves gives the ground depth and softness.
It does its best service under trees and bushes, in a ditch, around stumps and at the edge of a forest track, where leaves naturally gather. It also works well in the corners between roots and at the foot of a wall. Do not make the layer the same thickness everywhere; let the ground show through in places and pile the leaves up elsewhere, as though the wind had blown them there. Thin the area out at the edges, so that the transition to grass does not end in a sharp line.
First paint the ground a dark brown, so that no pale surface shows between the particles. Then apply scenic glue or white PVA glue thinned with water and sprinkle the leaves on with your fingers or through a sieve. Once dry, sweep the excess back into the container with a soft brush. It is a good idea to go over the finished area with thinned glue applied from a pipette, so that the layer does not work loose while the diorama is handled. Static grass and small twigs can then be added around the leaves.
It suits builders of dioramas and of the model railroad. The material also suits filling out a scene that is already finished, because it can be sprinkled into glue applied over a small patch only. The glue, paints for the surface and other scenic material are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
