Pre-cut masking films of kabuki tape for a model of the Panavia Tornado aircraft in the IDS, ADV and ECR versions in 1:48 scale, in the basic BASIC form.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Panavia Tornado is a two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-sweep wing. It came about as a joint European program and served in several forms at once: the IDS as a strike aircraft for targets on the ground, the ADV as an interceptor with a lengthened fuselage and the ECR as a specialized aircraft for electronic warfare. The masks are listed for all three versions.
The most patience in painting an aircraft is swallowed up by the canopy. Cutting strips of tape directly on a model means cutting with a blade right next to a clear part, and one scratch is visible forever. Pre-cut masks of kabuki tape do away with that step: you just lift the elements out of the sheet and lay them on. The paper tape at the same time gives way even to a slightly convex shape and leaves no remains of adhesive behind once removed.
They are attached before spraying, onto a clean, dry and degreased surface. Press the elements down around their whole perimeter, above all in the corners and along the edges, so that no paint runs under them. Apply the paint in thin coats; a heavy application runs under the edge of a mask far more readily. Once the paint is dry to the touch, remove the masks, best of all with the point of a pair of tweezers and with a pull at an angle backward, not perpendicularly upward. The BASIC form is the smaller of the two ranges offered; what exactly it contains is given in the instructions with the set.
The masking films alone are supplied. Paints, thinner, glue and other modeling material are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
