Responsibility details are not available.
A set of unpainted figures of the Natal Native Contingent from the British colonial campaign against the Zulus in 1879, in 1:72 scale. It adds to a British force a unit that looks quite different from the line infantry in period photographs. The figures in this range are in soft plastic, on which ordinary polystyrene cement and paint do not hold without preparation. That is not a flaw but a property of the material.
The Natal Native Contingent was made up of Africans from Natal who fought alongside the British against the Zulu kingdom. Their equipment and weapons were poor: most of the men had their own traditional weapons and only some were given rifles. They were set apart by a red headband, so that the British would not mistake them for Zulu warriors in action. The contingent suffered heavy losses at Isandlwana and its part in the campaign is still recalled less than it deserves.
First wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry out completely. Then apply a primer intended for soft plastics, or the paint will crack once dry. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Vary the shades of skin and of the shields between the figures; with this unit uniformity would look unnatural.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
