HäT 1:72 - British artillery of the War of Independence

A set of unpainted figures of British artillery of the American War of Independence in 1:72 scale, with guns and crews. It adds fire support to the infantry, which gives a diorama depth and shows that a battle was not just a row of muskets facing each other. The figures are in soft plastic, on which ordinary polystyrene cement and paint do not hold without preparation.

The real subject

British artillery held a special position in America: densely wooded country and poor roads prevented heavy pieces from being moved, so the guns most often used were light field guns drawn by a single team. The gunners wore blue coats, not red like the infantry, which set them apart at once on the battlefield and for the modeler means a welcome change of color in an otherwise red force.

Building and painting tips

First wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry out completely. Then apply a primer intended for soft plastics. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the gun carriages separately and add the crews to them only at the end. The wood of the carriage and the metal gun barrel should be in clearly different shades.
