A drill bit 0.5 mm in diameter in sintered carbide, from DSPIAE. The largest of the three sizes, for a pin vise as well as for a micro drill.
Responsibility details are not available.
The largest of the three sizes. Half a millimeter is the threshold beyond which a hole on a model is clearly visible even without a magnifier, so this diameter suits the muzzles of machine gun barrels in larger scales, exhausts, holes for thicker wire and the seating of pins that have to carry something. It is also used for drilling into resin and metal parts, where a thinner tool will not last.
Tungsten-based sintered material holds its edge for a very long time, but it is brittle and a sideways force will snap it. Hold the drill square and do not lever with it. On thin walls it is good to back the part up from the inside so that the material around the hole is not pushed out and a crater formed. Drill into metal slowly and wet the cutting edge with a drop of oil now and then. Do not breathe the dust from resin and filler and wipe the workplace down with a damp cloth afterwards. A small burr will be left at the edge of the hole after drilling; it is taken off with the tip of a larger drill turned in the fingers or with a conical deburring tool, not with a knife, which only waves the edge.
Try the hole dry before you seat a wire in it. During drilling some of the material is pushed inward, so the actual passage tends to be noticeably tighter than the diameter of the bit suggests.
For modelers of larger scales and for anyone who seats thicker wire, pins and tubing into a model.
The package holds the drill bit only. Neither a drill nor a holder is included.
