A stock package of blades for a modeling knife. A sharp blade is a basic condition of clean work in model building, and because it goes blunt much sooner than one realizes, it pays to keep a supply. A blunt blade does not cut plastic but tears and pushes it, so a white bruise is left at the cut and the edge then has to be trued up laboriously.
Change a blade before it stops biting; you will know by having to add pressure. Added pressure is precisely the most common cause of a slip and a cut finger. When changing, hold the knife away from you and do not throw used blades loose into the bin but collect them in a closed container. Do not touch the edge with a finger, not even when checking whether it is still sharp.
The package holds the blades only; a knife is not included. Before buying, check that the shape of the blade matches your knife; the scalpels of different makers use different fittings. Store the blades out of the reach of children.
Twenty pieces is a supply you can work with regardless of wear. That is the main benefit of a larger package: the blade is changed the moment it starts to drag, and not only when there is no other way to carry on. The cut then stays clean for the whole build and the edges do not have to be trued up.
