The DSPIAE SF-15 glass polishing file

A file of tempered glass with a very fine working texture. It practically takes no material off, it only smooths a surface that you have leveled beforehand with abrasive paper. So it is the last step, not a replacement for sanding. Glass does not clog as fast as metal does, it does not corrode and its abrasion does not dirty light-colored plastic.

When to use it

It shows up most before a gloss coat, before a metallic and on clear parts, where the surface is to be without any texture at all. On matte coats its effect is lost under the paint, so there it is an extra step with no visible benefit. The straight working face predestines it for areas and longer edges; for gaps and corners the shaped sizes of the same series are the fit.

How to work with it

• Work with a drawing movement in one direction and without pressure.
• Put it to use only at the end, after abrasive paper.
• Rinse a clogged surface with water and let it dry.
• The glass is brittle; do not drop the file and do not bend it in your hand.

It pays to keep the file in a case or at least wrapped in a cloth. Unprotected in a drawer it rubs against the other tools and its fine working texture gets damaged exactly where it matters most. Do not breathe the sanding dust from plastic and resin; work with extraction or at least with a respirator.
