An injection-molded plastic kit of the gunship version of the transport aircraft Douglas AC-47D Spooky in 1:144 scale from the brand Roden. It is an armed gunship conversion of the proven C-47 from the war in Vietnam, with side-firing rapid-fire machine guns. The model has finely engraved panel lines, clear parts and a decal sheet. The smaller scale makes this unusual machine a rewarding and not overly large piece for the display case.
The AC-47 was created by converting the C-47 transport into the first American gunship. In the left side of its fuselage it received three miniguns, with which it could concentrate devastating fire on a single point on the ground while circling over the target. In the war in Vietnam it supported ground units, especially at night, when it also dropped illumination flares - hence the nicknames Spooky and Puff the Magic Dragon. The concept proved itself and became the basis of later, more heavily armed gunships.
The small scale rewards careful filling of the fuselage joints and the wing leading edges; mask the glazing before spraying. Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic. Apply primer and spray with an airbrush - the typical scheme is Southeast Asia (SEA) camouflage with a green and brown upper surface and a black underside for night operations. A fine panel wash and light highlighting will pull out the structure.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
