An injection-molded plastic kit of the Tupolev Tu-22UD trainer, code name Blinder-D, in 1:144 scale. The Ukrainian brand Mikromir offers a subject you will hardly find anywhere else in small scale. The model is supplied unassembled and its size makes it suitable even for a smaller collection.
The Tu-22 was a Soviet supersonic bomber and missile carrier with characteristic engine nacelles at the root of the fin. The Tu-22UD trainer version had a second, raised cockpit for the instructor, which made it possible to train crews on this demanding type. The Blinder was among the machines that placed high demands on flying, and the two-seat variant therefore played an important part in training.
The tiny scale calls for careful work with small parts and clean gluing with thin cement for plastic. We would suggest a primer, metallic shades sprayed with an airbrush and light accenting of the panel lines. Fit the glazing of both cockpits only after painting and protect it with a mask or with canopy glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
