A replacement for the deck surface of a model of a protected cruiser of the Chinese Beiyang Fleet in 1:144 scale. It is not a kit, but an accessory: a thin layer with the pattern of a planked deck is stuck straight onto the plastic deck of the model. The cut matches the Bronco kit with the designation KB14001.
Protected cruisers for the Chinese fleet were built at the end of the 19th century by British shipyards and belonged among the so-called Elswick export cruisers, which were delivered to Chile and to Japan as well. Several of them met the Japanese fleet in September 1894 in the Battle of the Yalu River, which ended in a heavy defeat for the Chinese side. It is one of the few Chinese ships of that time to have made it into the modeling range.
First paint the plastic deck dark, so that bare plastic does not shine out of the seams. The area must be flat, degreased and free of any putty residues. Lay the part down from one edge and press it down bit by bit, so that no bubbles are left underneath. Try the cutouts around the superstructures dry beforehand. The finished deck only needs a light fixing with matte varnish, as a thick coat will flood the fine pattern of the wood.
